Thinking...WoolfCamp Writers Workout...

...Memorial Day Weekend? Or weekend of June 10 and 11? Again, at Chez George and Grace, Santa Cruz?

This would NOT be in lieu of the proposed WoolfCamp Topanga Canyon, Fall 2006. I want to create another weekend where we practice writing. Like:

* the stream of consciousness stuff

* writerly exercises where we can kick off a piece with the same prompt - "The only thing I ever wanted was..." OR "tell a story based on this photograph/painting/still life..." OR "Your topic today is 'crazy'. Write anything about it."

* Collaborative story telling

Campers will read their favorite stuff after dinner.

Geeks/visual artists/knitters are welcome, of course; but the commitment and workshops will be oriented towards writing.

Both genders, all skin colors, your kiddos, any sexual orientation, good dogs are welcome.

This (and, hopefully, all) WoolfCamps will be based on the principles of open source gatherings. 'Safe space' guidelines will be developed and promoted. (See my thoughts on these ideas right here.)

Yeah, we'll dance. I'm thinking this time we can celebrate the late, great Curtis Mayfield and dance to Superfly!

So, Campers, wanna play?

I, too, would love a weekend where we just write...oh, and dance.

Since you seem to be a a fab organizer, do you think I should throw some dates out (for the Topanga autumn gathering)fairly soon or wait a few months?

Oh yes! Something more writer oriented is something I am most definitely interested in. Commitment to come when I know what the heck is going on in my own life.

Although this sounds like a great weekend, I will have to pass this one up. A lot on my plate in the next few months.

However I will watch very closely and keep tabs via whatever wiki/group blog you set up.

One thing I'm workin on (baby steps by baby steps) is a online class in "blogging your craft". (gee, I should have signed up for that distance learning workshop at the local community college last month. Hope they repeat it).

I am all over that! I can bring Curtis. I have the whole Superfly soundtrack on my crafty iPod and PowerBook. Starts singing immediately, "Eddie, you should know better ..."

I would love to go. But I'm gonna pretend I didn't see the part about bringing my kids being okay. . .

it will truly depend on the weekend (as dave and i have incredibly FULL schedules already...we were just bemoaning this over brunch), but if it is at all feasible, we will both be there. as will the very well behaved buddha and stella.

thank you, grace, for this. and for everything else. as always, i am in awe.

I am down for a writerly weekend... please not June 11th (Mom's birthday, I don't know what we're doing yet, but I do know it'll be all about the mom.)

Chris and I are 'maybes' right now. We have two weddings and two business events to launch during May and June so not sure what frame of mind we will be in. :) Will watch the blog and let you know as we get closer to the date.

If I can I will be there. If there are enough of us with kids - maybe we could hire some teens to watch over them - do fun things with them etc. Then maybe jenijen will reconsider as I would love to see her kids - I bet they are amazing.

lin - you should slam a stake in the ground and just spout off dates. Just don't aim for Halloween weekend, however. That's a Holy Day of Obligation in my household.

Memorial Day e weekend is WisCon, and will not work for badger, Amber, or me. Other than that, this idea rocks.

I'm with Sarah; I think the fabulous Grace should host these weekends on a really regular basis, and we should all unhost-assist.
